Release Day Question: What’s next for the Merrick brothers? Is this the end of the series?

Every Friday (or on the occasional release day *cough*), I’ll answer a reader question (anonymously). I’m open to anything (it doesn’t have to be writing or book related), so don’t hesitate to send in a question. Email to brigidmary@gmail.com or use the Contact tab.

Q: What’s next for the Merrick brothers? Is Sacrifice really the last book in the series? Is this the end? I want closure! Are you writing more books? Are ya?

A:

This is such a hard question to answer.

First of all, I need to take a minute. I need to thank you. To thank all of you. I was going to do a video blog, but it’s 4:45am, my hair is wet from the shower, and there’s a good chance my happy sobbing would wake the baby.

Besides, I’m a writer. I’m more comfortable talking to you from behind the keyboard. (That said, if you want to see me cry, you should probably come to the Sacrifice Launch Party on Saturday.)

Where was I?

THANK YOU. Storm came out in April of 2012. In just over two years, I’ve published five books, three novellas, and through those books, I’ve met some of the most amazing people on the planet. YOU GUYS. If you’re reading this post, I mean you. I never imagined the amount of emails I would receive or the number of amazing gif-filled reviews I would get, or the people I would meet, or the Facebook friends and Twitter buddies I would have. I have dozens of friends on Facebook and Twitter that I’ve never met in person, but now we talk about kids and dogs and life and share recipes and I know them JUST BECAUSE I WROTE A BOOK. Do you know how special that is? Do you know how amazing you all are? You are a part of my dream, people. You helped make this happen.

Okay, now I’m crying. These are ugly tears. Seriously, now. I made the right decision in not doing a video.

Besides which, you’re all probably like QUIT WITH THE CRYING AND TELL US ABOUT THE MERRICKS, WOMAN.

Here are the most frequent questions I’ve been getting:

1) So is this the end of the series?

I don’t know.

That’s an ambiguous answer, I know, but I can’t say a whole lot about what’s next. (Yet.) I am currently not contracted for any further books in the Elemental series, but I can cryptically say that this probably will not be the last of what you hear from the Merricks. I can also say that my next book for Kensington / Allen & Unwin is about sexy empaths and a small town where women keep dying. (We’re still working on titles.) The book will be a solid blend of family issues and the paranormal. I’m hopeful you’ll love Thomas and Charlotte just as much as you’ve loved the Elemental boys.

2) Do you want to write more books in the Elemental series?

Yes.

But there are only so many hours in the day. I want to write other things, too, and I don’t want the Elemental Series to turn into crap that felt forced just because I didn’t have the opportunity to be creative with other stories. Yes, the series is open ended right now. I did that deliberately so I can come back to it in the future.Right now I just don’t know when that will be. I’d love to tell Tyler’s story. And Irish’s. And Adam’s. And … and … and … and …

3) How could you do that to __________?!?!?!?!??!????!!!!

Come on. How could I not?

Okay, my husband just woke up, came out here and asked how long I’ve been up, and I burst into tears.

You guys.

YOU GUYS.

I love you all. So much.

Thank you. Thank you for everything.

Now someone bring me some tissues, ‘kay?

  1. Happy Release Day! While I haven’t tucked into Sacrifice yet (darn you day job!) I want to thank you for a very enjoyable run with the Merrick boys. I’d vote for more if it were up to me just because they are such great characters. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for your next project.

  2. Aw, this makes me feel all teary myself! Just want to wish you congratulations and all the best luck on future books. I’m looking forward to reading them and must say, that one-line description of your next book has got me so intrigued! It’s been lovely to be apart of your book journey so far. Thanks for letting me be apart of the Storm tour and for the acknowledgement in book #3 (which funnily enough, also happens to be my fave (so far) – it’s one of the coolest things ever to happen to me as a blogger and something I’ll remember and treasure forever. I’ll always remember browsing the acknowledgements in the bookstore, spotting my name and doing a happy dance/jump/squeal.

Sacrafice arrived in the mail a few days ago and I can’t wait to read it, even though it will probably scar me.

  3. I love you. Seriously.

And of course, I’m with everybody else – I would love to see more of the Merricks in the future! But I also love that you left the series open-ended, because those are my favourite endings: the ones where the readers can decide for themselves what happens next, if the author doesn’t do it for them.

Sacrifice arrived on my doorstep this morning, and I didn’t stop reading until I was finished. Because the Elementals series is by far my favourite series at the moment (possibly ever!) and I just couldn’t put it down.

So thank you for writing such an amazing story, and I can’t wait to read your next series!

  4. You’ve done so much in two years, Brigid! Congratulations on everything you’ve acomplished 🙂
Can’t wait to get into Sacrifice but I’m a little sad that this may be the end but also hopeful that it may not be the end.
Thank you for an amazing series, I’ve loved falling head over heels with the Merricks and pretty much everyone in the series.
Also, that new book. Gimmie! I will read anything you write. Anything.

  5. I loved every one of the books in the series. I do hope you will continue the Elemental books, but I can’t wait until your next book is released. There is only one thing that I think would improve the series. For the all to be released as audio books. I would love to listen to them all again.

  10. I have loved every minute of the Merrick story, and I have loved reading your comments on the questions above. THANKYOU so much for your story and you inspiration, and while I would love to be reading another elemental book right now, I’m very glad you’ve decided to leave time to creat another masterpiece as beautiful as the ones you’ve already created.
THANKYOU so much for all you’ve done.

  11. Hey Brigid
Loved the first two books, really well-written stories with great character. Unfortunately I read the first two on kindle but can’t seem to find the rest. And I was wondering if they’ve been released on Kindle yet or not? Thanks

  12. Okay…
I’m not entirely sure where to start here.

First of all, I am a huge fan of yours, Brigid! Before I began reading the Elemental Series, I really wasn’t a fan of reading at all. Thank you for introducing me to this whole other world.

Second of all, you really inspire me! I’m a writer myself of stories, poems and songs. I love writing. But I kind of lost my way with it, if that makes sense. Life just got in the way, and I forgot about the book I was trying to write. But reading your books, they motivated me to begin writing again. I’m currently writing sed book, and I’m hopeful for its future.

So thank you for that. Thank you for the Elemental Series. I really hope you write more, but whether you do or not, you’re awesome.

  13. I LOVE YOU. Just want to wish you congratulations and all the best luck on future books. I’m looking forward to reading them and must say, that one-line description of your next book has got me so intrigued!

  14. LOVE YOUR BOOKS! Each book gave me a better understanding of how difficult a life could be if you were hiding secrets like family issues or having a different sexuality. I was disappointed at first when I read Breathless since Nick was my favorite brother, but I’ve come to love him even more! I have re-read your books countless times and will always love them! 🙂

  15. Dear Brigid,
I accidentally wrote onthe wrong page so i rewrote it on here.
Your book Sacrifice was so amazing. It was full of so much emotion that i cried twice. I didn’t realize how reading your books made me feel connected to the characters in the story. The first part i cried was when those people took Michael’s brothers away there was just so much emotion and it felt as if i was in that very same hospital room. The second part was when Hunter gave his life to save the Merricks. I couldn’t really believe what i had read so i reread like five times. So thanks for this wonderful series. I hope you write more about them but you know, its up to you.

    Yours truly,
    Angelina

    ☺️😊☺️😊☺️😊☺️☺️😊☺️😊☺️

    Kind regards,
Tortured soul who now has a distorted view on reality and thinks they are a 5th.
