Constable & Robinson commissioning editor Victoria Hughes-Williams has recently acquired UK rights for a five-novel series by American author Brigid Kemmerer from Dorie Simmonds at the Dorie Simmonds Agency.
Much-in-Little, C&R’s children’s/YA imprint, will publish the Elemental series for the YA/crossover market. The first novel in the series, Storm, will publish in March 2014 – preceded with the e-novella, Elemental, in February 2014.
The Elemental series starts with a fight. When Becca saves Chris Merrick’s life, she is immediately drawn into the Merrick brother’s chaotic world. The Merrick brothers are Elementals − people who have a higher connection to the elements. They can control these elements and cause widespread chaos, such as earthquakes and tornadoes. Every single natural disaster has occurred at the hand of an Elemental, and that is why they are marked for death by the Guides. When history tries to settle the score, things get messy. The series follows the Merrick brothers, who each draw power from a different element: water, air, fire and earth; and who are hunted because of their powers.
Storm is Brigid’s debut novel and was nominated for the YALSA Readers Choice 2012 as well as being longlisted for the 2013 Inky Awards.
Hughes-Williams said: ‘Quite simply, Storm is a remarkable debut. We all fell in love with the immensely likeable, flawed central character of Becca, the pitch-perfect pacing and the swoon-worthy Merrick brothers. The Elemental series is action-packed, perfectly paced and hugely addictive!’
